“Major League Baseball (MLB) and Chevrolet, the official vehicle of Major League Baseball, will unveil the “Chevrolet presents the Major League Baseball Latino Legends Team,” prior to Game Four of the 2005 World Series. Academy Award nominee, Edward James Olmos will emcee the pre-game ceremony which will recognize the 12 players selected by the fans to the “Chevrolet Presents the Major League Baseball Latino Legends Team.” The festivities will be televised live to viewers in the United States by FOX Sports on Wednesday, October 26 at 8:00 p.m. EDT and to viewers around the globe by MLB International and its rightsholders.
The “Chevrolet presents the Major League Baseball Latino Legends Team” program was created to commemorate the storied history and immense contribution that players of Latin American heritage have made to Major League Baseball. As part of the program, a special ballot was created that featured 60 Latino players representing seven different countries and territories. Representatives of Major League Baseball and the editorial staff at MLB.com, the official Web site of Major League Baseball, selected the current and former Latino MLB players who appeared on the ballot. In addition, the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum provided statistical research services for the program.
From August 29 through October 10, fans were able to vote via English and Spanish ballots in participating Chevy dealerships nationwide, or online at MLB.com. Chevy supported the program with special ballot boxes and program themed point-of-sale materials in participating Chevy dealerships.
The final “Chevrolet presents the Major League Baseball Latino Legends Team” selected by the fans consists of eight position players, one at each infield position and three outfielders, three starting pitchers and one relief pitcher.
As the presenting sponsor of the “Major League Baseball Latino Legends Team,” Chevy launched an exciting sweepstakes which will give one lucky fan a trip for four to Game Four of the 2005 World Series and behind the scenes access to the official unveiling of the team. Fans entered the sweepstakes through the paper ballot available at participating dealerships and online at MLB.com.”

“Few would disagree that this was the year of Shakira around the world. It began in June with the release of her history-making debut Fijacion Oral, vol. 1 and the smash single “La Tortura” which has not moved from its #1 spot on the U.S. Latin chart in over 19 weeks. And now, as promised, Shakira is back with her first English language album since the 13 million selling Laundry Service. The latest album Oral Fixation, vol. 2 is a new body of work which will be released November 29th on Epic Records.
Written and produced by Shakira – along with longtime collaborators Gustavo Cerati, Lester Mendez, Luis Ochoa, and Tim Mitchell -Oral Fixation vol. 2 finds Shakira at an all time creative high. Over the last two years, Shakira penned over sixty new songs; ten critically acclaimed Spanish songs comprise on Fijacion Oral, vol. 1 (which has already sold 3 million copies so far) and a batch of new English songs now make up Oral Fixation, vol. 2. The album also contains two English renditions of “Dia Especial” and “Make Me Believe” from Fijacion Oral, vol. 1 and a new song “Illegal” featuring the legendary Carlos Santana. Both albums are executive produced by Rick Rubin.”

“Theater movie prices continue to rise, causing many people to seek out alternative forms of entertainment. For many this involves simply turning on the television for a host of “new releases” that hit premium channels and “pay-per-view” networks almost as quickly as it takes movie theater popcorn to cool. However, for Hispanics interested in entertainment featuring authentic Hispanic actors speaking their native language, there’s actually slim pickings available.
If you want to watch a movie in Spanish, you have to wait and see what network or cable television has on the programming roster. You don’t have the option of choosing a preferred movie genre, or watching a show when it fits into your schedule. Luckily for movie aficionados, that has all changed. “

“The National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH), part of the National Institutes of Health, today is launching a new effort in the Real Men Real Depression campaign — Spanish-language materials to inform the Latino community about depression and to encourage men who are depressed to seek help.
In the U.S., Latinos are the largest ethnic minority — a population of over 40 million. Of this group, 40 percent reported that Spanish is their preferred language, according to a report by the Surgeon General. The new Real Men Real Depression materials were created to help Spanish-speaking people across the country and from all over the world to understand more about depression, a serious illness. As the nation’s primary mental health research agency, NIMH is dedicated to reducing the burden of mental and behavioral disorders through research on mind, brain, and behavior. As part of that mission, NIMH provides mental health information to the public and, in particular, focuses on reducing disparities in health care.”

Bank of America today announced its free nationwide remittance service that is making it easier for millions of Hispanics to send money to Mexico by eliminating transfer fees. Called SafeSend(R), the new feature is available to anyone who has a Bank of America personal checking account. Earlier this year, Bank of America became the first major financial institution in the United States to offer free remittances when it introduced the product in Chicago.
“We are proud to help millions of Hispanics send money for free to loved ones in Mexico,” said Liam McGee, president of Global Consumer and Small Business Banking. “Adding the free SafeSend feature to our checking accounts is our way of saying that we want to do much more — we want to be their bank of choice and help Hispanics develop rewarding, long-term financial relationships.”
